Makeup Roundup: Save or Splurge?

This week is my first post dabbling in the beauty world! My hope is to share some of my latest favorite beauty products and help you by doing some of the heavy sifting for you. There’s SOOOO many makeup products out there, with excellent marketing schemes, which makes it hard to find what actually works and is a quality product. You could go years cycling through different products, never using the same one twice! How overwhelming!

One of the biggest struggles is not spending a FORTUNE when purchasing makeup. We’ve all been at Sephora, with an overflowing basket, half of which we’ve been lured into buying, knowing we’re about to drop a fortune when we really just came in for a mascara. Your skin is your biggest organ, so you definitely want to make sure that whatever you’re putting on your skin is quality. However, that often comes with a hefty price tag. In this post I’ll be sharing some of my current favorite beauty products and if it’s worth the SPLURGE or if it’s better to save. 🙂 I hope to introduce you to some new bargain beauty items and save ya some money in the makeup department! 😉

Splurge: Foundation

I feel like this should go without saying. The quality of your foundation is so important. Your covering your skin with a product for several hours a day, you want to make sure the ingredients are quality! My current favorite foundation, especially for summer is the Senegence tinted moisturizer. This is hands down the best tinted moisturizer I’ve ever used. It’s super light-weight but has incredible coverage and wears so well, all day! So much better than any BB creams you can purchase in a drugstore.

Splurge: Sengence MakeSense® Color Correcting Tinted Moisturizer $45 (Contact me if interested in purchasing 🙂 )

Splurge: Eyeshadow Base

One thing I can’t stand when it comes to makeup wear is eyeshadow creasing! For awhile I thought this was inevitable, especially after a long day of wear. I tried E.L.F. eyeshadow primer base for awhile and it basically did nothing, except giving my eyelids a slight glimmer. Haha. I then took the plunge and tried Nars eyeshadow primer and I can say it is possible to go all day with your eyeshadow staying in tack with no smearing or creasing!

Splurge: NARSPro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base $26

Save: Brow Kit

I used to be a huge Benefit addict. I would go monthly to their brow bar to have my brows done and of course they convinced me into buying their brow wax and powder duo. I really liked the product, until I found a MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper version that works just as well! The brow kit I use daily with the wax and powder duo is by E.L.F. and get this… IT’S $3! $3! You seriously can’t beat that! It lasts all day and wears just as good.

Save: E.L.F. Eyebrow Kit $3

Splurge: Foundation Primer

This has always been one of my biggest makeup frustrations, getting your foundation to last all day! I think investing in a solid primer is so important, not only because you’re covering your whole face with it, but it’s important to the wear and look of your makeup! I love this primmer by Becca, it’s great for oily skin to give a matte look and a poreless finish. Worth the splurge!

Splurge:  Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector $36

Save: Mascara

Finding new mascaras has always been a hobby of mine. Haha. I love trying new ones and always fall for the clever marketing campaigns. The fact that I’ve committed to ONE mascara for over a year now says A LOT! I’ve tried several at Sephora, but was either detered by the steep price tag or wasn’t happy with the product. Until I found, Covergirl’s Super Sizer mascara! This stuff is legit. I love how it elongates my lashes and makes them look full without major clumping. The wand is amazingggg!

Save: COVERGIRL Super Sizer by LashBlast Mascara $5.24

Splurge: Setting Spray

Another recent solution to my long lasting makeup problems! I always used a setting spray when I was anticipating a long day of wear, however it took me forever to realize that it was trash. I used to use the setting spray from E.L.F. and it pretty much did nothing. I regret continuing to use it for so long! I took the plunge and started using Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray and haven’t turned back. It is much pricier, but worth the price tag. Combine it with an excellent primer and you’ll be good to go.

Splurge: Urban Decay’s All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray $31

Save: Liquid Eyeliner

Along with mascaras, great eyeliners have always been one of my constant searches. I have tried everything from Kat Von De to cheap N.Y.C, in search of something that lasts long, doesn’t flake, or smear. I found THE greatest liquid eyeliner, L’Oreal Infallible Super Slim! It has a felt tip and is super easy to manuever. It lasts all day and doesn’t flake off, like most liquid eyeliners. I wear this on my top lash line everyday and am continually ordering more on Amazon as soon as I run out. Just like mascara, to have settled on one eyeliner is a BIG deal for me!

Save: L’Oreal Paris Infallible Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner $6.76

All of these products I genuinely love and use daily! Being a frugalista, it’s slightly painful to invest so much money into makeup products, but I firmly believe that high quality products are worth the price tag! Finding great low-cost products make up for it. 😉 Next time you’re at your local drugstore, I’d encourage you to try some of these great budget-friendly products!
