4 Styling Tips On Wearing White After Memorial Day

The first sign of summer season, Memorial Day! Who doesn’t love a good 3-day weekend?! Even though it isn’t scientifically accurate, in my world the summer season falls between Memorial Day and Labor Day. 🙂 Summer is by far my favorite season, so I’m going to stretch it as long as I can!

One of the most famous rules of fashion is… “Don’t wear white after Labor Day.” While, I don’t necessarily adhere to all these ridiculous rules of fashion, one thing I do embrace about summer fashion, is wearing white! I love the crisp, clean look!

Even though white is very simplistic, wearing it can be tricky. In my opinion it all comes down to piece selection and styling. To get you summer ready, I wanted to give some simple styling tips on how to look great wearing white this season!

Styling Tips On Wearing White

1. Pick a focal point piece wisely!

Wearing white certainly makes a statement! There are so many different ways to go about doing so. For summer, a clean white dress, a pair of skinny white jeans, or a flowy white off the shoulder blouse. Whatever white piece you choose, make it the center of your outfit! Focus your styling around that one piece.

2. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!

Even though wearing white has a very simplistic look to it, it doesn’t have to be! Wearing white doesn’t equate to a boring, basic outfit. After you’ve picked your focal piece, it’s time to accessorize! Think pops of color and different textures. Bold jewelry and fun shoes are perfect to pair with a white outfit. I personally love to add pops of color into my outfits. So I might wear a fun colorful statement necklace or a textured pair of wedges.

3. Don’t go overboard!

Ok, I will admit, that sometimes people can pull of an entirely white outfit. BUT it’s very hard to do. The last thing you want to do is look like a paint swatch with all different shades of white! Eeek! If you want to add more white to your outfit, you can pair two pieces together that are on opposite sides of the outfit. If that makes sense? Haha. Pairing a white sunhat with a pair of white cutoff shorts. Or a pair of white lace-up espadrilles with a white ruffle tank!

4. Style accordingly to the occasion!

I love white in the summer! Not only does it keep you cool, but it also looks great! However, there is a time and place for it. Wearing a white sundress to a barbeque is probably not the best idea. Hello stains! Or to a summer wedding. That’s a definite no-no. Wearing white is perfect for a casual day, night out, or everyday look!

In this week’s look I wanted to showcase a simple casual look, that could be worn to a summer get together or around town. I love this simple linen romper I snatched at the end of last summer for $4.88! Yeah, $4.88! Gotta love the Loft’s final sale section! The eyelet detail and bow belt give it a little flare. I wanted to add some pops of color to balance out the white. So I decided to pair it with fun cobalt blue tassel earrings I snatched recently and my new glittery gold Jack Rogers that I’m obsessed with! 🙂 I’ve been wanting a pair of Jack’s for awhile and didn’t want to fork over the $118! When I saw these at Marshall’s for half the price and in my favorite color, I fell in love. I passed them by on a few visits, but kept thinking about them. In the end, I decided to treat myself and took the plunge and bought them, because sometimes you just have to treat your self! And I will say, I don’t regret it! They are such good quality and are going to definitely be a summer wardrobe staple this season.
